A house celebrating the tradition that explores the use of industrialized building systems to craft an economical, safe, and creative living environment. A collaboration with Jeffrey Mills, the structure had to respond to a difficult site.

For the project to be largely Owner-built, the design integrated clear and simple construction systems and assembly techniques, while preserving a unique character fitted to the site and adapted to residential requirements.

CHALLENGE The Owners wanted a live / work environment reflecting their contemporary art making and collecting; combining generous interior spaces with integrated exterior and outdoor terrace spaces.

SOLUTION An “urban loft” in the foothills, with structural parts that seem to extend into space. The use of glass and steel modular construction systems achieves a contemporary multi-use environment related to nature.
